The My 2 Sons: Continuing Scholars Renewal Scholarship

In October of 1989 Rev. Gloria’s oldest son, Sean Cater, was murdered at age 21. As a result of this tragedy, Giving God the Glory Ministries was founded in 1997. Her youngest son, John Cater Jr., an award winning journalist, died in January of 2010 at age 32. This was 6 months after he won the prestigious Emmy Award for Excellence in Reporting.

My 2 Sons

The thoughts and convictions of John and Sean Cater in their own words

I hope to inspire young Black males watching me, giving them the opportunity to see someone who looks like their brother, friend, cousin or even their next door neighbor. And when faced with the challenges of daily living, listen, pick and choose their fights, turn adversity into advantage and stay focused.

I, Sean A. Cater, vow that I will always give back my services to the best of my ability in order to help support and strengthen the youth of today’s society, especially the Black youth. Most importantly, I will teach my kids to give back to society so that they will feel the inner joy it brings to help a distressed individual.
